Here at York Foot Orthotics and Bracing, we see many people who are suffering from foot, knee, and ankle pain. These issues can be caused by a variety of different things, and the treatment can vary depending on the root of the issue in question. However, for many ailments, one of the best treatments is foot orthotics, which will support your feet and legs and can even help encourage a more balanced gait. In this article, we’ll go over a few signs that you may need foot orthotics.

Do You Need Foot Orthotics?

  • Significant Time Spent Standing- One sign that you may need, or could at least benefit from, foot orthotics is spending a lot of time on your feet. Specifically, if you stand for five or more hours a day, you have an increased risk of developing plantar fasciitis, an injury to the ligament connecting your heel to your toes. Orthotics can help reduce this risk by relieving some of the stress placed on this ligament from extended standing.
  • Severe Foot Pain- Another sign that you may need foot orthotics is severe foot pain, particularly around the heel. Although this may sound obvious, in our experience, many people tend to dismiss foot pain, blaming it on wearing uncomfortable shoes rather than treating it as a serious health concern. Foot or heel pain is a sign of plantar fasciitis, especially if it occurs in the morning, and it’s worth getting checked out by a doctor.
  • High or Low Arches- Lastly, if the arches of your feet are very low or very high, regular shoes may not be giving you the support you need. Foot orthotics can provide that support and relieve pain or discomfort you may have tuned out.
